RE: Heated Grips

Now that you mention it....

I checked mine last night and damn, they're not drilled. Do I have to replace the handlebars (really more like a left and right handle, the bar on an RS is a separate piece) or can I drill mine out? Or can I just route the wires on the outside similar to what you would do with an aftermarket brand? I'm partial to the factory pieces as they come with the switch and plug into the existing wiring.

Hi Bob,

I installed the factory kit on my '96 RT and as I remember it was quite
easy, pretty much a plug-in affair along with the minor pains of
threading the wiring where it needs to go and removing/reinstalling the
grips themselves. Since you apparently also have a '96 one thing you
might want to check is whether your handlebars are pre-drilled for the
heated grip leads... on the RT's of that vintage some were delivered
with the drilled bars and some were not. This concern may not apply to
an RS since the RS bars are different than the RT but just thought I'd
mention it...
