Re: Cracked system bag hook

Bruce,
I had done that too. I made pins of 1/4" in dia. of stainless steel, turned on the lathe. One end of the pin has a flange with rubber washer, then inserted through the box's lower lateral support across the support of the frame, then another rubber washer and one of those "hook-pin" (?) across a small hole at the other end of it. I did drill the hole while the box was in place, it's a guess work but, turned out to be just right.

Few weeks ago, at a bad parking place, I dropped the bike ('94 R1100RS) and at home I noticed that the part of the frame's support is broken off. Having the pin in place I did not loose the part. Just welded it, so all's OK again.

Permanent fix as follows.no more cracked rails/no more lost bags

you need to mount and center the bag(s),pull the wheel off, drill the bottom
bag mount right through the bag mount and the bike mount.get a clevis pin and
insert pin to secure the bag to the bottom guide /mount,giving your bag a 3
point fixed mount to prevent it from flexing / bouncing on the top rail....and
leaving the bike when you least expect it.easy to remove when mounting and
much more secure when you have overloaded your hardcases.
