Mid-Week Rides: Big Sur for Lunch

WWWobble had the idea of lunch in Big Sur at the deli by the shell station. With that destination in mind we met at Bobbie’s in Cupertino for breakfast at 9:17. Why 9:17? Ask WWWobble, it’s his ride.

After breakfast we rode south on 85 to 101. In southern San Jose we got off the freeway and meandered over to Hecker Pass and the road to Watsonville. In Watsonville we took a left at main, riding around Elkhorn Slough where we stopped for the required group photo.

The next stop was in Seaside where WWWobble gave us an impromptu tour of down town Seaside on the way to re-fuel. Thanks WWWobble. Once fueled we saw some more of Seaside getting back to the coast and heading south to our destination.

The deli by the shell station in Big Sur is not motorcycle friendly. Well, the deli might be, but its gravel parking lot with nary a level spot to park a bike isn’t. We decided to continue south for another mile or two to Napenthe. Done. Had a great lunch. Of course what we paid would buy dinner for a family of 8 at McDonald’s. Didn’t care.

The route home for WWWobble and me was up the coast to Half Moon Bay then over the hill to home. Dick’s route was to peal off onto 17 at Santa Cruz. We stopped for a final break and a chance to say good-bye just before Santa Cruz.

On our way home I found that the Captain is incorrect… WWWobble does know how to use his turn signals. He used them for about 8 miles going into Santa Cruz. I also discovered two other interesting facts: 1) the FJR does not have self canceling turn indicators; and 2) WWWobble doesn’t know the standard signal for “your blinkers are blinking”.
