24 November 2009
There was a mid week ride. The riders headed north. The weather was nice. That’s the report from Chris. Dick has a bit more to say….
Dick writes:
Our November 24 ride started at 7:15 A.M. at the Golden Gate Bridge. Chris and Dick motored north with temperatures hovering in the mid-forties. Brent met us at the Golden Egg Omelet House in Novato. Shortly afterward, Pete (a regular SMBC rider) joined us for breakfast while Chris entertained us with his coffee and garlic spilling routine.
From Novato we rode through Napa to the Hess Collection Winery where Dick explained the meaning of modern art to the unwashed. From there we followed the Mount Veeder Road across the big mountain and circled back through Glen Ellen. Pete took the lead and disappeared over the horizon. Apparently he “zigged” when we “zagged” and our cadre dropped to three riders.
We continued westward and stopped in Tomales for lunch. After considerable discussion we formulated a plan a leisurely ride down the Pacific Coast Highway synchronized with the carpool hours on the GG Bridge. Brent broke off near Point Reyes to head home while Chris and Dick continued southward.
At the Muir Beach overlook, a white Goldwing reappeared on the horizon. Pete rejoined the ride at the overlook. We continued southward down the coast highway carefully timing our approach to the bridge. Fearing we might be a minute early, we broke off at the bridge overlook for photos and conversation with friendly tourists. At 4:15 P.M. we crossed the Golden Gate Bridge gratis and headed home from one of the most beautiful California days this year.
