It was a ‘short notice’ and short ride - but what a day for it! I was ‘questionable’ as I had to go to the police range and re-qualify for a new ID card and concealed weapon endorsement. The start time was 11 AM down in Moss Beach and the guys would pick me up enroute to Marin County (just across the Golden Gate Bridge). For me, the ride started at 11:30 AM and I was back home at 3:30 PM. What a day! It was warm and windless with no clouds, just a fog bank about ten miles out to sea.
We rode the one-way road around the Marin Headlands, then out to Rodeo Beach adjacent the Marine Mammal Center - these lands are all part of the GGNRA (Golden Gate National Recreation Area). Thereafter we jumped back onto US Hwy 101 and over the Waldo Grade for CA Hwy#1 and the route to Stinson Beach. CA Rt#1 is a twisting roadway with lots of 15 and 20 mph recommended turns. The highway has recently been repaved and traffic was ‘light’ with the cagers (autos & trucks), using the turn-outs to let us pass. Lunch was consumed in Stinson Beach at a nice bistro that Randy Hendricks recommended.
After lunch is was a short double-back to the outskirts of town to pick-up the Panoramic Highway which returned us to Mill Valley, US#101 and home.
