Three riders braved the cold weather report and appeared for breakfast at Mike’s in downtown Livermore. Chris Weld was late in arriving, thanks in part to another motorcyclist who tangled with a mini-van (probably while lane splitting). Chris doesn’t travel during commute hours and even though a full hour was allotted, he was late. Once on the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge it was zoom-zoom the rest of the way.
Chris arrived to find a ‘Zunkel machine’ and a never before seen ‘74 R75/6 with cafe fairing parked in front of Mike’s. It was discovered to be part of Paul Hampton’s ‘stable’. Our ride followed breakfast. We rode N. Livermore for Morgan Territory, a 1-1/2 lane wide paved thoroughfare witch climbs and dips for 15-20 miles for Marsh Creek and a turn to downtown Clayton for a cup’o joe. We backtracked on Marsh Creek about 20 miles for a cut-off to Vasco Road and back to Livermore. Chris was home just before 3 PM having covered 168 miles. In the words of Brother Zunkel “..it was a cool, but not cold” ride.
