Mid-week rides are rare during the summer months. Vacations, camping trips, the MOA rally, etc. tend to keep people away. This year must be different. When Bob asked who was up for a short lunch ride the discussion was about when, not if. When the date was picked several said they were busy… they showed up for the ride, anyway. Maybe it was the destination: cheap Thai food. Eight riders for lunch.
Fog/overcast ahead?
Skyline at 92
Before the ride
Notice the fog at the ridge line. Notice the fog on skyline at 92. Then notice the complete lack of fog and overcast at Alices as we prepared to depart. Most of the ride was in the 80s, falling to the 70s as we got to Santa Cruz.

Randy knows the way
Post-lunch bliss
The destination was a Thai restaurant in Santa Cruz. Randy (no, not that Randy, the other Randy, the one who was on the ride) took over the lead to get us to the restaurant after Bob made suggested a route to highway 1 that maximized traffic. Bob’s nice that way. Lunch was good. You can tell by the happy faces in the post lunch photo.
On the coast
I took the coast home and got there by 3 PM. It was cool, but not quite cool enough to pull over and zip up some vents. The 60s on the coast were more comfortable than the 90s anyone taking 17/85/280 found.
This was the last ride for my rear tire. Thursday I’ll mount some new rubber. Then I’ll have to take another ride to break it in. Where shall I go?
