Randy noticed a BBQ place in Santa Cruz (near the corner of Mission and Bay) and read nice things about it. Seemed like a good destination for a lunch ride. Wanting others to hold his hand during his first visit email messages were sent to various mid-week riders seeking those who might join his quest for good BBQ. Bob, Chris, and Marc answered the call. Others might have joined if only Randy got their email addresses correct. Maybe next time.
We left Alice’s about 10:30 and headed down 84 a ways before turning onto Pescadero Creek. Just east of Pescadero we turned onto Cloverdale/Gazos Creek to eventually wind up on the coast. Since Chris was with us we took the mandatory detour onto Swanton and stopped to snap a few pictures. Maybe next time I’ll get all the riders in the same light.
After the break at Swanton we rode into Santa Cruz and followed Randy around 3 or four blocks to eventually get to the BBQ place parking lot. You had to be there. Lunch was fine. They don’t serve coffee.
After lunch the guy with the 3 gallon gas tank (me) filled up while the others took off up Bay street to High Street, stopping to wait for me to catch up about where High turns into Empire Grade. The route home was Empire to Jamison Creek, to 236, to 9, to Skyline and a second stop at Alices’s. About 3:15 I said my good-byes and headed home.
