So I’m sitting on my beautiful Yamaha stopped at a wide part of a paved road shoulder while the other guys are parked in the mud of a pull out, all to crack jokes about the litter near a puddle – a package of Marlboros (empty) and a condom (I don’t know). And the Captain yells, “WWWobble, you do the write up!!!”
Me? Why me? I was hardly paying attention. But I don’t want to fake it and make shit up, because that’s the territory of our favorite globe trotting Peruvian explorer. OK then. Just the facts Mam:
WHO: The Captain said there were six of us, well, me and him that’s two. Marco on the DR650, the most appropriate bike for the roads ridden. That’s three. Paul H. I remember from the kerplunk I heard as his Beemer decided on a nap in the parking lot. No damage. And yes Paul, I did have to mention it because, you know, just the facts Mam. And Jeff Z (see Captain, I don’t have to know how to spell Zane), all the way from Marin to ride with this group? I guess…, and lastly the great Peruvian World Traveller to humor us along our bumpy little trails. That’s six.
WHEN: Thursday, January 24th. 10AM (thanks to WWWobble who enjoys sleeping in)
WHERE: Meet in Concord (CONCORD??, why Concord) at Min’s Kitchen on Clayton Road, which has a tricky right turn in there somewhere, but we all found the place. Pretty good food too.
WHAT: A MidWeek Ride of course. And because I forgot to note where we actually went after breakfast in the WHERE section, I’ll just put it here, best I remember. Chris picks the only guy in America who doesn’t own a GPS to tell us where we went. Oh, sure. OK Here goes:
Stay on Clayton Rd pointing away from Concord. check.
Turn onto Marsh Creek Rd, pass by the little village section of Clayton (no stop) then…
Back on Clayton. (see how WWWobble pays attention. Say it. good job!
Right turn on Morgan Territory Road. Who knew it had so many little bridges.
Stop at the Morgan Territory Regional Preserve for BS and PIX.
Leave. Hit freeway. Head west behind trucks. Lot’s of trucks. Big ones.
Exit Palomares Rd. Nice. Stop at muddy turnout. Marco says it’s only dirt. OK. Damp dirt. Whatever.
Left of Niles Canyon, ride thru Sunol, is that Bistro new? Looked like a nice stopping place. No dirt.
Onto Calaveras Road. 1/2 beautifully paved. 1/2 old road with brand new gooey tar snakes.
And for WWWobble, facing a 3pm curfew, that was it.
Remainder, I assume, did the Felter Rd / Sierra Rd loop, which was probably the best of what we did.
WHY: Because this is what we do. Any ride is better than no ride, and this ride was a lot better than what most of make America great again gets in January, for sure!
