I have an '01 R1100R with almost 36,000 miles (the 3-year factory warranty
ran out 2 days ago, and I ALMOST acheived my goal of running it out on miles
before time, I ended up with 35,210) I am no expert, but I doubt that your
throttle cables need replacing, Maybe this is a time instead of mileage
thing, but I've never heard of it. I ran with no cat code plug for a couple
weeks last year, and ended up putting it back in because I couldn't live
with the 32 mpg mileage. Setup normally I get 40-42. I doubt you will get
your mileage back up without the cat code plug. For an experiment last year
I bought the white "crummy fuel" cat code plug sold for the Adventure GS.
(only about $15) The bike ran great but would not idle. It died EVERY
time I cam to a stop. Disconcerting to say the least. I have never tried
the potentiometer either. Perhaps with the plug back in and a good valve
adjustment and synch, you will get the mileage you're looking for. I still
have a VERY small amount of what I think most would call surging, dual
plugging I'm sure would eliminate it. I also run Autolite plugs, which
seemed to have a small but definite effect. You may want to try what bob
Hadden suggested, I personally have never messed with my TPS. I'm just
amazed how well the bike runs for everyday riding. After owning a /5, this
bike is almost "futz free" in other words I don't have to adjust and mess
with it all the time. (not that I did THAT much on the /5) Let us know
what you try and what works or doesn't!
