Is the spam coming from a real Yahoo server, or just have yahoo.com in the
return address? The return address is very easy to spoof and it is common to
use common domains like yahoo.com or aol.com because it is harder (for many
people) to block these domains en masse without also filtering desired mail.
In any event I doubt that the spam is really coming from Yahoo as I would
bet that they have some pretty sophisticated mechanisms to prevent this. But
anyone can send you mail with a 'yahoo.com' return address as anyone can put
anything they want in the return address field... but Yahoo themselves have
nothing to do with this and are powerless to prevent it.
If your address has gotten onto the spam lists I think you'll find filtering
by entire domain quickly becomes impractical, but there are several
filtering programs which use more sophisticated techniques that can be
fairly effective. You will likely soon be buying one of these or changing
your email address. Spammers are scum....
