Re: Spline Lube



The spline between the engine and transmission on a car is exactly like 
on our bikes.  The engine turns the flywheel and pressure plate with 
the clutch disc pinched between.  The clutch disc is splined to the 
transmission input shaft and has to slide on that spline a very small 
distance when the clutch is disengaged.  If it doesn't move on the 
spline you will get clutch drag and poor shifting.

There is another contact point in the car when there is a pilot bearing 
to support the front of the transmission shaft.  The bikes do not have 
a pilot bearing.
