RE: Suggest route from South Dakota to Montana

<<Can I camp anywhere along the roads inside the park and
outside the park?>>

You reminded me of my first long motorcycle trip. In the summer of 1978 I rode to Yellowstone from Oregon with a friend on a Suzuki 550 Triple and myself on my '74 R90. It was an eventful trip and included a 60mph slide out by my riding partner in Lolo Pass.

To answer your question, we tried to sleep by the road in Grand Teton National Park but were politely sent on our way by a Park Ranger at 2:00AM. The rule is that in a National Park you must be in a designated campground. However in National Forests you can camp anywhere it doesn't say you can't.

Subject: Suggest route from South Dakota to Montana

I am taking a trip from North Carolina to the Yellowstone Park in late
August. Because of time constraints, I will trailer my bike to about Rapid
City. Will some of you experienced travelers give me suggested routes and
"must do" rides? I'll have about five days of riding and would like to ride
about 300 to 350 miles per day. Perhaps a southern route, up through the
Yellowstone Park and a northern route back to Rapid City. I'll be riding my
RT so I am not inclined to do a long stretch on gravel roads. Additionally,
what about camping? Can I camp anywhere along the roads inside the park and
outside the park?

1100RT and F650.
