Re: Ohlins shocks ... nightmare!

may i suggest that you enlist the aid of a friend and spend an hour tuning
your suspension using all available adjustments. you can google your way to
several fine detailed writeups of how to get this job done.

often times suspensions are factory set as if you intend to spend your life
time doing track days. any suspension, OEM or aftermarket, can exibit
tendencies of harshness. the fact that your suspension no longer seems
'harsh' to you should be a big clue that your suspension is in need of
replacement.

keep in mind that your suspension has only one job, keeping your tires in
contact with the surface you are traversing. worn suspension parts put you
directly in jeopardy simply because your tires are 'floating' at times.

changing out suspension parts, then, is only the beginning. learning to
fully adjust them to your riding habits and style is the second part. also
keep in mind that spring rates commonly supplied as 'standard' assume you
weight about 175#. cranking up the preload will not compensate for body
mass, only a stiffer spring, or a life style change :)) will make a
difference.

i can honestly say that my last bmw was 'reborn' with the installation of
the ohlins front and rear. i made that change at 40k but sure wish i had
done it lots sooner.
