"Slow, lean, roll..." doesn't help when you're doing 3 MPH in a parking
lot and a kid, shoping cart, car, whatever, comes at you from a blind spot.
If you're paying attention stopping is not a problem. Stopping in time
is not a problem. Stopping in time without dropping the bike can be a
problem with the new braking system. A quick pull of the brake gives
full breaking power with no chance to modulate the brakes. If the bike
isn't straight you're likely to drop the bike. You don't have to be leaned
over, having the front wheel cocked a bit is all it takes.
I suspect I'm being bit by the feature that is supposed to save 1/2 a
second in panic stops. As I understand it the bike applies full brakes
when it thinks you are in a panic situation. How does it know?
I can stop smooth and I can stop quickly but even after three years with
this bike I can not do both simultaneously when the speed is < 5-10 MPH.
Note: Mine is an early R1150RT and I understand BMW has tweaked the system
since then.
