You'll need to deal with the fuel line dumping fuel (I have quick
connects). A needle vice grip with two sockets works. A clamp could work
too. Remove all the plastic. There are two small vent lines, disconnect
those. They will be right next to each other. Disconnect the fuel pump. This
will be to the right of the tank support bar. Plug opens to the front of the
bike. Secure front wheel so it doesn't bump the tank when making the crucial
removal. Obviously the fuel tank support bolt has to come off. Tank is ready
to come off.
Try to take note how the tank comes off in the front. After you get the
tank off, look on the frame for the rubber mounts. On the tank there are the
sideways U shaped points that engage the rubber mounts. It is easy to go
OVER the rubber mounts. After you get the back on, make sure everything is
engaging correctly into the rubber mounts. Be VERY careful (but don't get
rattled!) about hitting the battery against the + on the battery. I'm not
sure exactly how, but I fried the fuel pump wire years ago. I did this at
the BMW dealer who screwed up the tank to rubber mounts correctly. I guess
this is why I don't just let everyone (everyone?) work on my bike.
Good luck Matt and if you have questions, that is what this forum is for.

Subject: Gas tank
I am going to install my new Odyssey battery in my '00 Roadster.
Can someone give me good directions as to how to safely remove / move the
gas tank in order to do so?
Any info will be appreciated. Reply either off or on list.
Thanks,
