head shake

At least I did not go down...

On the way to Mid-Ohio (about 60 miles) from the track, My friend says he
sees smoke coming from the engine and oil dripping so we pull over and look. My
front Works shock had blown all its oil out, all over the telever and motor.
Well I decided to press on... The front end was as bouncy as a '70s
Caddy. All was well till I hit a longwise crack in the pavement about 2" wide
just a few miles from the track on Rte 341. This threw the bike into a violen
tank slapper, beating my hands up and pulling my bike hard to the left
accross the oncoming lane. As a last ditch effort I grabbed the bars to get control
just as I was hitting the opposite shoulder. It took a couple of shakes
but I got it back into my lane. My friend stopped me a little later pointing
out my RH saddlebag was open. I lost acouple of items which I was able to
retrieve, no problem, but I did have the 2 tabs in the bag that hold the lid shut
snap off. I haven't had to bungie a bag shut since my 83 R100RS, in fact I
never seen an oilhead bag bungied shut, so mine is now. While retrieving said
items my friend asked what happened and I tell him. He says he saw the slapper
going on which cause dmy rear end to hop left and right and leave little black
marks on the pavement. Later on back at the motel room I looked at my front
tire which had sideways scatchs in the tread from the slapper dragging my front
wheel side to side. This was friday, we wandered our way back to Detroit Sat. I
had the front kick around a few times on the way home, which caused some
white knuckles. I am stressed out and down right scared of my 1100 and riding in
general. My friend Jack Daniels is trying to calm me but I still can not sleep.
I regret not seeing all the people I promised to see on this weekend. I rode
home only because of the "getting back on the horse that threw you" mentality.
I think I am going take a a break...
