ABS

If some of you get this twice I apologize. I sent it at 2 PM and it has not
come through.
I need some help or ideas on my ABS problem.
I have a 2000 R1100RT. I has a new battery from BMW, new pads on the rear
and the wheel sensors are set at 48mm, both front and rear. The bike has
22600 miles on it.
There is no pattern to when it will fault. I can reset the ABS and drive out
the yard and it will fault or I can ride 1-3 miles with some stops and then
riding off from a stop it will fault.
It makes the normal sound they make at start off from start to ride off, but
when it faults there is a heavy thud sound.
If someone out there in the land of BMW please can help I would appreciate
it.

Thanks

Jack

Jack,

Have you read the fault codes? See pages 70-73 in
http://ibmwr.org/r-tech/oilheads/R11Manual/Oilhead_Maintenance_2-25-02.pdf

For some reason I still don't understand, I had to juggle the shims in the front sensor to eliminate a persistant fault; IIRC, I ended up removing the thinnest one. I don't reall the gap I ended up with, but it was on the close end of the range given in Haynes, maybe a little beyond that in places around the ring. The fault codes consistently pointed to the front sensor as being the problem.

You might try clearing the codes using the proceedure in the manual before trying anything else. I had to resort to the loooong clear to finally get rid of the front sensor fault.
