Subject: Rubber Fuel Gasket Ring
Presidents,
I spent the afternoon working on my RS and one of my upgrades was
replacing the deep RS filler neck with an RT filler neck, which should
allow more fuel to live in the tank at fill-up. I had seen on the list
where the rubber gasket ring would maintain its shape if it were
submerged in ice water. Well, it was close, but the ring expanded
outside of its home when I rescued it from its icy bath. In general, how
long does this gasket need to return to its original shape? Is there
something that can speed up the process? I installed a new battery and I
want to take my RS out for a much needed ride.
TIA,
Robert,
I never heard of the ice water trick but I don't think it would work. The O-ring swells when the gas hits it, thats why it makes a good seal.
I would recommend you order a new one right now, do you want to really have it fail and get a lap full of gas? I think the gasket is pretty cheap.
Paige
