Re: Aviation Oil

aviation grade oil should be used in oilheads?

DO NOT USE AVIATION OIL IN MOTORCYCLES (OR CARS).

This is my understanding why:

1. General aviation aircraft have the prop bolted directly to the crankshaft
(not geared)
2. Therefore, the motor must turn at the appropriate speed for a propeller
3. This speed is on the order of 2500 RPM, not 7000+
4. As a consequence of low RPM running, GA engines are much more susceptible
to carbon buildup
5. Aviation oil is formulated to prevent this carbon buildup
6. This formula compromises lubrication properties
7. That's why GA engines have to be overhauled much more often than ground
vehicle engines
