Ignition switch question

All,

Yesterday I noticed as I was walking from the store back to my
'95 R1100RS, the headlight was still on. Later,
in the garage, I could not get the light to go out
when the key was in the R position without endlessly
fiddling with it.
Any suggestions/ diagnosis?
