Re: Alternator belt replacement



To tighten the belt tensioner you need a crown nut (the one which has hole on one side only, so the threaded hole does not go right through the nut).
Then, you put a ballbearing-ball into the nut (8 mm crown nut), screw in onto the tightener and keep turning it to tighten the belt. I am not sure if this is clear enough, but you may get the idea.

  Instructions are in the manual.  If you don't have the official BMW manual
  you can also find instructions in the IBMWR's "Oilhead Maintenance Manual"
  available on the IBMWR website.   I think the link is called something like
  R1100 Tune Up Manual or something like that.
