Paige,
I have a 1994 R1100RS with ABS, it has 170,000 km on the clock, I've got it at 13,350 km, I put on the rest.
Addition to the electrical system as follow:
Two extra aux. sockets,
Voltmeter,
Running lights over the cylinders,
Two horns,
Heated grips,
Heated vest,
CB radio,
FRS radio,
GPS,
Descending blinking brake-light.
There must be more, I probably forgetting something.
I never had any electrical problem, so far.

My son melted the entire back section of wiring down, That was fun sorting that
mess out. They use the smallest gauge wiring and it seems to melt right down to
the connectors so it is hard to splice in a new section of wire.

I must ask what your son did to cause the melt-down?
We really don't know for sure, I know he did add one of the Led Hyper-light stop lights but it did work
when he installed it, perhaps he nicked a wire and it finally shorted out but the melt down was
virutally total..
