You need to get the throttle just about fully closed to signal to the
ECU to enter the mode called "Quick, change operations so as to avoid
lean misfiring during engine braking."
Sometimes the throttle sensor (TPS) or something can be out of whack.
Be sure the TPS reads safely below .4 volts at idle (and that you fully
close the throttle when slowing).
Could that be relevant to your problem?
