Dave,
   It's not ABS related.  You have a problem with either the left
caliper 
or the
hose feeding it.  There is a very small orifice in the Master Cylinder
that 
should
be uncovered when the lever is released fully.  If this orifice is
plugged, 
pressure
can build up in the brake system and apply the brakes with no lever
action.
   The hoses can fail this way too, allowing fluid to flow TO the
caliper 
but blicking
the fluid from returning to the MC. You should take a small wrench with
you 
next
time.  You can open the bleed nipple to release some pressure when that 
happens.
