I had the same experience 300 miles from home and I also used the sticky-string + glue, lit the wick, let it burn off, just like I did with car tires for decades.
I made it home and used up the tires for local rides. I would not attempt to use a repaired tire for a long trip.  Same as it's with car tires, side wall "not repairable", as any tire place and manufacturer would say.
