I saw this on a K100 and and seen it on a number of cars. In all cases,
a magnaflux and X-ray of the parts indicated improper heat treatment at
the factory that lead to micro-cracks in the interior of the casting or
forging. Now, if you could only prove that it was a manufacturers defect ...
