Yes, there are a lot of reasons for a bike cover. Seems like your reason
is to protect from prying eyes and UV and rain when parked at motels etc.
I specifically do not recommend any expensive cover for this use. An
expensive cover just draws more attention to the bike underneath.
I bought one of those black, expensive stretchy things first. I used it on
one trip only. Problems were: 1. No rain protection. 2. The cover
looked so nice on the bike, I was worried about people stealing the cover!
3. Material melts near anything hot.
Next, I went to Farm Fleet and bought a cover for cheap...under $30. It's
silver and blue and you see them quite a bit. They come in Large and Super
Large. I bought Super Large ( Gold Wing size) and it works great on RTs
with system cases and top case and oversized windscreen. I just bring bag
liners into the room and leave system cases on the bike. I think this
cover is ideal for touring. It comes with a stuff sack and can fit in my
side case lid with the bag liner in. On the bike, it looks decent, but not
expensive. It doesn't scratch. It's waterproof to a point. I use tent
spray on it to increase water resistance. This is all you need.
