Re: [Fwd: RT Linked Brakes]

Bob:

If you're that concerned with slippery downhill slopes, get a GS or RS or RT
police version. All of these bikes have independent rear brakes, only the
front is linked.

I've had exactly one situation where rear-only braking was truly helpful. I
was at the Stodge rally in Iowa and it poured down rain all night. The
rally site was very hilly and the trails were dirt and steep. It was slick
as snot and there were tons of people walking around and any could have
stepped in front of me as I was trying to get down the hill. It was
awfully dicey. I felt lucky to have made it without incident. This was
extreme. On gravel in the same situation, I'd have been fine with the new
brakes, especially with the pedal mod I mentioned.

Bear in mind that the new brakes won't lock with the new ABS. They recover
from ABS mode quicker than the old system too.

I thought it would be more of a problem than it is. I was going to go out
and source the parts from a GS or Police RT to install independent rear
braking, but I've decided it's not worth the trouble and pain after riding
with the system for 4 months.
