I bought from Will Croom out of country. Came to find the spring was not
really suited to me. The sag is all wrong. This type of precision can not be
adjusted away by compressing the spring more (thanks to all her that
schooled me). A new spring will probably cost about $80. I spend just under
$1K to my door originally. Buying local insures you get the setup you need.
There are a few different springs for different applications. The remote
adjuster does VERY little adjusting, so the spring pretty much has to be
just right.
Now, my issue. I've got my rear shock out of the bike till I come up with
cash for the new spring. I'm thinking that I DON'T want the remote pre-load.
Here is my thinking ... the stock BMW shock allows a WIDE adjustment. You
are loaded up with camping gear two up, you get out your spanner and give it
a few (pain in the ass) adjustments up. 1-7 so even two heavy people can
ride. With the Ohlins, the remote pre-load doesn't cover this range.
However, it looks like the next cheapest has the two ring adjustment using a
spanner. One could set the bike up for ultimate one up riding, then squeeze
the spring for two up camping. Not the ideal setup crushing the spring down,
but if it works for the stock BMW shock? Would this idea ruin a fancy
Ohlins? Comments PLEASE. I need some more schooling!

Subject: Ohlins Shocks
Guys,
A friend of mine has a1999 K1200 LT. He is looking to buy a set of
Ohlins shocks. I know this subject has come up on the list many times
but as I have Ohlins on my RT I haven't been paying much attention.
Would appreciate it if the list would give me places where Ohlins can be
bought REASONABLY.
Phone numbers of these places would help so he can call.
Thanks in advance.
