Thanks for the link suggestion.

I had already started a thread over there some weeks back on the same 
subject. You are correct, they seemed to be more supportive or perhaps 
I should say more in tune with my expressed final goal since the thread 
ended up being about three pages.

My initial quest was to gather some data on what would be normal for my 
bike and that forum provided the most information as well as the most 
helpful information. It seems to be home to a much younger crowd more 
into the sport riding aspect of R1100S machines.

But, now that the problem is solved and there is technical information 
on the fix I thought it was a good idea to post it here as well as 
there for two reasons: common courtesy, there are threads in both 
places, and, to give helpful technical information wider dissemination.
