RE: Retorquing heads etc.

You may well have been lucky, Clyde. The head gaskets were heavily discussed on the big list a couple years ago about the time mine started leaking. Like others, I tried re-torqueing with no success. The new metal style gaskets seem to take care of the problem permanently. I'm sure your 2001 had the new style but the '96 sure had the old ones.

Bob,
I must have been lucky then - stopped slight leak(s) on both '96 R850R and
'01 R1100RT just by re-torqueing. YMMV.

It's very accurate if you're careful.

With a '99 however, you should have the new gaskets. Maybe it will correct
the problem, if not, complete head gasket replacement is not that tough.
