I didn't pay much attention to this at the time, though I'd also noticed a
change in the sound of my '02 R1150R with about 12,000 miles, recently. One
reason for my sang-froid on the matter is that for pretty much all of this
year I've been afflicted with an ear condition that's played Old Harry with
my hearing; the loss is considerably greater than the 32 dB attenuation of
the earplugs I normally wear, so I couldn't be sure if the change in sound
was the bike, or me. This last week during a scheduled service the dealer
happened to notice that the muffler wiggled pretty freely. The clamp bolt
attaching the muffler to the catalytic converter seemed to have abandoned
ship some time ago ...
You may want to see if you can easily move the muffler. That bolt could be
loose.
