I reviewed my notes and remembered what I had forgotten. <G> 

It seems that gel cell batteries are more sensitive to higher
voltages. They require a specific charging cycle, requiring
higher current but lower voltages then an AGM. The wrong type of
charging can shorten its life. They also don't like high temps
ie over 100F. 

There's quite a bit of info related to gel cells on the websites
of both battery manufacturers and charger mnfr. 

Some chargers ie Optimate, claim to charge all types of
batteries including gel cells.
