No spark

* Washed my 1998 R11RT Sunday and let dry for an hour.
* Started the bike, ran fine for a few minutes and than died.
* Would not restart.
* Determined that there was no spark.
* Disassembled the bike and tested the Hall generator with a 12v LED
and a regulated 12V supply. Worked fine at both room temperature
and 145C.
* Checked the primary and secondary resistance of the coil. The
resistance between the primary leads is 0.4 ohms which compares
favorably to that specified in Clymers. The resistance between the
secondary leads is 7548 ohms which is very different than the 1300
ohms specified in Clymers. However, I know the coil was changed in
1998 so before replacing it, I wanted to know if the
specifications have changed.
* One strange effect was that there would sometimes be a buzzing
sound from somewhere near the airbox when the Hall plug was
connected and the power was on. On these occasions, the tach
needle would jump around a bit. It was almost like the Hall unit
was sending a rapid series of pulses to the computer for spark
generation.
* Note, there was NO water in the area of the Hall unit nor in the
area of the coil. The spark plug area (around the connectors) was
wet but this has always been the case after washing the bike.
* The Hall unit was covered in a thin black film and the whole area
was filthy. I am assuming that is is degradation products from the
alternator belt.
Thanks in advance!
