RE: bad gas mileage

Take a look for the CAT code plug, if the PO took it out to reduce
surging (pretty common on a '96) mileage can increase considerably,
especially if a lot of stop and go is involved. And speaking of city
driving, doing short trips on my RS would yield less than 40 mpg, while
continuous highway riding at brisk speed would deliver just under 50.
These bikes don't like to go slow.

Start with the air filter, I changed mine and was amazed at the
increase.

I, started riding my 1996 r1100rt 4 months ago. I have noticed it gets
about
34.8 mpg this seems really bad. The bike seems to run just fine but the
mileage is poor. I only have 26K on it and no history of prior
maintenance
other than I changed the plugs at 23k.
