I am not sure if it was the 4th of July weekend, the heatwave or the location of the restaurant, but there were 14 at breakfast today – one of the largest turnout in a while! Attendees were Marc, Rob, Carl, Jerry, David, Todd, Alberto, Gilbert, Shree, Harry, Rich, Chris, Russ and Jag, and we would have had more only if … the directions to the destination were clearer and certain driving credentials were renewed in time.
After the pre-breakfast chatting we headed in the restaurant for the food. The service was great as usual, with individual checks for all of us. After more post-breakfast chatting Harry led the ride through Stevens Canyon Road and beyond to Rt. 9 and Skyline to Alice’s. When we got there it wasn’t too hot or too busy but soon after, that was not the case. Also, we found a sign with a QR-Code to pay for the parking! No one to my knowledge paid.
Soon after, Chris suggested that we avoid the crowd and get cold beverages at Loma Mar Kitchen. While others went on their way, Harry again led Chris, Rich, Shree and I west on Rt. 84. On the way we took a detour on Wurr Rd. to check out a potential camping spot. Since Shree got caught up behind some cars, when he arrived at LMK, he didn’t see us and moved on.
We had the back porch at LMK to ourselves and had nice cold drinks there. After discussing various topics ranging from CA wildfires to septic tanks we headed home. deciding to take Stage Rd. back to Rt. 84 and onward. From the parking lot of LMK, Harry and Chris pulled out on the road first. As I pulled out, I heard a loud clunk and saw a downed green BMW R1300 GS in my rearview mirror with the rider standing next to it. I hurried and turned around to help (no, to take the pictures), but it was too late – A helpful rider parked next to it had already helped pick up the bike; so, it looked like nothing had happened. No evidence! Was I too tired and just imagined the whole incident?
The remaining ride was uneventful until we all split to our destinations.
