Last Sunday of the year – And a ‘wet one’ it was! Six stalwart SMBC’ers appeared at the Country Inn in San Jose during a thorough drenching, Carl Tyler, Russ Danielson, Jag Patel, Rich Penrose, Harry Bahlman and yours truly, Chris Weld. Those last three were not intimidated by water, they rode.
Harry lead the post breakfast ride out Steven’s Creek for Hwy 9 and onto Hwy 35 north where he challenged a cascading boulder which fell into his path. Thankfully a brief stop to inspect for tire/rim damage proved negative. Thereafter we stopped at Alice’s/Skylonda (aka The Trading Post, for warm beverage courtesy of the rich kid, Brother Penrose. Yes it was still raining when we all called it a ‘day’, Harry and Rich dropping down Hwy 84 for Redwood City and routes home. Chris headed north on Hwy# 35 for Swett Road and Tunitas Creek.
Chris dodged a couple downed branches, crushed branches but otherpwise enjoyed a comfortable putt onto and over Lobitos Creek Road. There was no traffic save one Amazon delivery truck.
Hwy #1 (known to some as the PCH) was sparsely populated, the skies were clearing, life was good. At about the Half Moon Bay Airport Chris’ instrument cluster was suddenly flashing a red triangle. The GPS on this motor translates fault codes and a screen tap revealed dangerously low tire pressure. At the time I had temperature set to inform and I quickly changed to ‘tire pressure’ which was then showing 28 lbs.’ in the rear tire. It held at 28 until entering the Lantos Tunnel, when it dropped to 26. I ducked-into the first gas station, Chevron at Linda Mar Blvd. Got a snoot of air and made it home.
Still raining
