Sunday
I woke up about 6 AM, but didn’t climb out of my tent until 6:30. The goal was to meet Carl, Dan and Fred at Panamint Springs for breakfast around 9. Breaking camp doesn’t take that long. However, while I was breaking camp Fred was discovering a problem.
Documenting the Evidence
The Evidence
Tire Plugger
The hole maker
Yes, that is an M7 screw that Fred found in his rear tire. I believe it took several different plugs plus a can of some kind of fix-a-flat to get the tire to hold air.
Breaking camp
Meanwhile, I broke camp, saving the coffee makings for last. Just as I was packing it, another camper came over to talk bikes. He was there in a camper, but brought his Husky for playing in the desert.
The chit-chat put me a bit behind schedule, so I was surprised to see bikes in the parking lot as I passed Stovepipe Wells. I pulled in to see what was happening. It looked like they were going to be a while. I rode on to Panamint Springs for a so-so breakfast. They arrived just as I was getting ready to leave. Looks like I’m still riding alone.
The ride to Paso Robles was uneventful. I did stop to take the pictures of the place where I low-sided on day 1. I didn’t see any other SMBC riders, just lots of Harley riders out for a Sunday ride.

Leaving California Valley
I got to the motel just as Rob pulled in. He was coming from Riverside where he was checking out the campus his son, Eric, is going to attend this fall. Rich and Ginny were there. Bob was there, too. He came down from the bay area to meat the group for the ride back. Fred, Carl, and Dan would arrive a bit later.
I checked into my room and took a shower. I needed it after 2 days camping plus riding in 100 degree heat. Once cooled down and in comfortable clothes it was time to chat, drink beer, eat, talk some more, drink more beer, etc. By 10 PM most were in bed.
