The night was moist.. So we left the next morning.
Departing from various locations Thursday morning, Dave, Mike, Paul and Jerry M met at the usual breakfast joint in Tracy. It normally would not be worth mentioning this event had it not been for the twins showing up sporting their chaps; Dave and Mike. So the tone for the trip was set J.
The ride over Sonora pass was the nicest it’s been for a few years in terms of weather. Prior to arriving in Bishop, we made the June Lake Loop and enjoyed spectacular views of the trees beginning to show their fall colors. It had been a long time since I’ve been up there and was definitely worth revisiting. Each time we stopped for the view, Dave and Mike proudly displayed their chaps to the onlookers some of whom asked to have their pictures taken with the two. Apparently they were making quite the splash.
The night in Bishop was uneventful and pleasant after spending the afternoon relaxing around the pool. Dave and Mike removed their chaps for dinner and we ate at a decent Mexican restaurant on the main drag. The weather was perfect. The following morning we had the hotels “free” food and departed south.
The CHP was out in force supplementing the State’s budget so we made an easy trip toward DV with the exception of the speed run downhill toward Stove Pipe Wells. Again the weather was spectacular and the ride was one for the record books. We stopped briefly at Stove Pipe and then made our way into Beatty. After checking in, the twins removing their chaps again, we enjoyed a pleasant afternoon around the pool waiting for Rob, Gary, Glen, Tom and the terrorist named Mark Abdul something or other that followed Glen down.
Later that afternoon when Robbie and gang arrived we spent until dinner time laughing at Glen’s stories and jokes and listening to Mark Abdul something or other’s terrorist tricks on blowing up people you don’t like using cherry bombs and bb’s. Most of us kept our distance. The only down spot about the stay in Beatty was the Denny’s restaurant that had taken over inside the Hotel replacing our favorite restaurant. The food was cold, late and tasteless so we divided our time between Subway and other restaurants in town when it came time to eat.
Saturday we split up and did different things. Mike followed Robbie and gang to Scotty’s Castle and then onto FC for lunch. Paul was extremely disappointed that the Buffalo burger was removed from the menu L and ended up eating something with more fat in it with the promise that we wouldn’t reveal this information to his wife. The weather in DV was over 100 but outside was nice. No wind anywhere J. The day was a great success. More pool time, eating and relaxing the rest of the evening and off to bed for a good rest before heading out the next morning.
We headed north Sunday morning from Beatty on our way back to Bishop. Mike decided no more chaps. The ride was smooth and pleasant the whole way into Bishop. After getting gas, Robbie and gang continued north and Paul continued on his way home. Dave, Mike and Jerry M spent the night in Bishop and departed for the Bay Area Monday morning.
Mondays ride over Tiago Pass was terrific. Traffic was light, weather was great and we made good time. We arrived into the Bay Area early afternoon with only Dave wearing chaps. J
All in all it was a great trip. The riding time and down time made for a very memorable event. Here’s an idea…let’s do this again next year.
