Second annual Beatty trip report -
The chap brothers ride again
Reported by Jerry M
Leaving Hayward late Thursday morning, I had a nice four hour ride up to Reno where I met up with Dave, Mike and Jerry Grey. Dave and Mike had come up earlier in the week for street vibrations. We spent a few hours walking around the many vendors, spent a bit of money, ate a nice dinner then bedded down for the night planning an early morning ride to Carson City to meet up with Glen. Thursday night I was able to validate the claims that Mike snores.
Friday morning 7:00 am. The chaps were donned, just 2 pair, and Dave, Mike and Jerry M left for Carson City for breakfast and a rendezvous with Glen. It was a cool 28 degrees when we arrived for breakfast. Glen introduced us to his friend Jay who immediately fit right in. During breakfast, Glen filled us in on the exploits of last years terrorist Mark Abdul something or other. Apparently, Mark Abdul something or other slipped the country and joined up with his brethren in the Philippines.
The temperature warmed up nicely on our ride south to Beatty and we arrived early afternoon. We spent the afternoon staying cool around the pool chatting. Dinner came and went and after cocktails, we called it a night.
Saturday morning we road down to Scotty’s Castle for the tour. A little disappointment here as the guide was half blind and mostly ignorant. We left half way through the tour. We rode through the valley and back to Beatty in the great weather. The Valley was awesome looking.
We spent the bulk of the afternoon gathered around the pool listening to those great Glen jokes and old sea stories. Dinner and drinks eventually followed and we split up for the night after donating our spare change to the casino.
We left at 8:00 am Sunday morning and headed north for Westgard Pass. The ride was nice and we made good time reaching Bishop. We had lunch at our favorite diner near the south lake and checked into the Roadway for our overnight stay. Dinner at Jacks closed out the evening and we bedded down for an early 7:00 am departure.
Getting up early we grabbed a quick snack in the hotel lobby and after learning Glen and Jay were planning to leave later in the day, we set out north. Although cool, we had plenty of sunshine to ward off the real cold and enjoyed a quick bite to eat in Lee Vining.
The trip over Tioga and through Yosemite was pleasant with plenty of sunshine. The rest of the ride home, quick.
Looking forward to our next trip.
