Meeting at the Two Bird Café for breakfast at 8:30 am on Saturday, Rob, Randy, Ron and Jerry M. started our north coast weekend ride to Fort Bragg. The restaurant was all but vacant and the weather was perfect. No Fog, lots of sun and light traffic. Breakfast was quick and we hit the road just after 9:00 am headed north for Bodega Bay to meet up with Jerry Howard.
Jerry H. was waiting for us at the Tides restaurant in Bodega Bay and after a stretch we headed north along the coastal highway. Warning; If you ride a big bike you may want to limit this route to once every 30 years or so. It remained sunny but we picked up some breeze from the west. The road was in fairly good shape although we ran into several areas of constructions and single lane highway controlled by signal lights. Traffic was moderate but kept up at a good pace. In one particular area the tar snakes were out in force and we practiced holding onto our seats by use of buns.
Sadly about an hour north of Bodega Bay Ron informed us that he had left his cell phone inside the restroom at the Tides. Ron headed back for his phone while the rest of us pressed on. Later that day, after we arrived at our destination, Ron texted that he was headed back home after recovering his phone.
We did lunch in Fort Ross and gassed up in Gualala before continuing on to Fort Bragg. The weather stayed sunny although a bit windy. Traffic remained light to moderate and we made good time to the Travelodge where we hooked up with Glen. Glen had driven in his car from Carson City the night before and got a good soaking most of the ride. After we checked in, most of the group walked down to Glass Beech for a quick stretch.
We had a fancy dinner at a nice restaurant a few blocks from the hotel to include birthday cheers for Glen. Back at the hotel we sat out in front of the rooms drinking and storytelling until the wee hours of the night (10:00pm). We decided to wait for morning to choose a route back.
We departed at 8:00am on Sunday and headed east on highway 20. It was sunny and nice with only occasional spots of moderate fog to Willits. The ride was nice and smooth all the way. We had a nice breakfast in Willits and headed south toward the bay area. Traffic was light until we hit Santa Rosa then went from moderate to heavy due to constructions in the area. We made steady time though to home.
Was a nice ride. The absence of fog and the moderate temps made for a pleasant trip. Well done Robbie !
