I got to the Westerner about 2 PM where many of the usual suspects were already talking and drinking. Dave made the rounds pushing his $6 tequila. I must admit it was about as good as the $18 tequila I enjoy once in a while.
Dinner was at a new place for the group. We had an air conditioned back room to ourselves. That was a big improvement over previous establishments. Dinner was pretty good, too. Rob did well setting it up this year. So how did we reward his work? He got the boot!
Why Rob? Many reasons. Rob has been a perennial runner up in the who’s-going-to-get-it sweepstakes for years. His save the bandana at the cost of his precription sun-glasses action is just one of many little things we can name. Also, history. This was the 25th time the boot has been awarded. Twenty-five years ago Bern was given the first boot as described by Alberto on the first page of this report. Seems only fitting that his youngest son be acknowledged as an equal screw-up for the 25th anniversary. His riding brother (me) and his mother (Sheila) have already been so acknowledged.
Pictures taken at the Westerner and the Carson Valley Country Club. I hope I didn’t miss anybody. Apologies if I did.
