Saturday
WWWobble had an idea. Instead of San Luis Obispo where the motel prices were high and the walk to dinner was long, how about a place in Paso Robles where he’d never stayed and dinner at a restaurant where he’d never eaten. Sounds like a plan. After all, if anything went wrong we knew who to blame.
Harry went camping in Morro Bay on Saturday. Bob and Polly also left for Morro on Saturday, but stayed at the Inn at Morro Bay. Sunday they left Morrow Bay for a ride that got them to Paso Robles around 4 PM. The pictures say they were at the Historic Pozo Saloon and Stage stop. You can ask them what roads they took.

Men put butts in cans back then?
Rob and went to the normal Sunday morning breakfast. Carl stopped there for a cup of coffee before heading off to Hollister to meet Dan, Fred, and Russ for breakfast. They were going to try out a new restaurant. Fred had to back out of the trip – he’s working on a bike to show at the Quail and it isn’t quite ready yet.
After breakfast I led Rob over to the coast then south to Monterey were we took 68 to Laureles Grade and Carmel Valley. After stopping for gas we rode Carmel Valley Rd to Elm, then Central to pick up 101 for a mile or two into King City and Jolon Rd. The picture of the lettuce field was taken during a rest stop near the intersection of Elm and Central. Salad, anyone?
We took Jolon Rd to Interlake and over the Nacimiento Reservoir dam. From there we rode Nacimiento Lake Dr into Paso Robles. In spite of taking a longer, slower route with extra stops along the way we got to the motel a few minutes after 1 PM. We could have joined Carl on his planned visit to the Estrella Warbird Museum and Woodland Auto Display. Next time.
Somewhere south of Holister Dan had bike problems. I believe Carl said it was a charging issue – perhaps the infamous Airhead BMW diode board failure. Dan headed to King City and called Lorraine to pick him up in his truck. Apparently Russ followed Dan for moral support. Neither made it to Paso Robles. Carl rode alone. Marc and Rob were sipping beer while waiting for their rooms to be ready.
Ready to walk to dinner
About 5 PM we decided to head over the the restaurant. Harry led the way because he’d been there with his daughter to scope the place out a while back. Harry led us McGregor’s – the wrong restaurant. McLintocks Saloon, the right restaurant, was only another block or two away.
Dinner was pleasant. So was the company. After dinner we had a shorter walk back to the motel without the wrong restaurant detour.

Dinner over, a nice walk back…

Sunday
Sunday morning Bob and Polly slept in. Carl, Harry, Rob and I went to Joe’s Place, a greasy spoon about 6 blocks away that had been recommeded by waitress at dinner. Good choice. I was packed and ready to ride home so left after breakfast. The others headed back to the motel.
Following a suggestion by Carl I took River Road to San Miguel to keep off of the freeway. I topped off my tank there then picked up Indian Valley Rd and headed north with a few stops to take some pictures.
I was taking my time. Even though he left later, Rob got ahead of me by taking the freeway to 198 and 198 to 25. I noticed him stopped at the side of the road on 25. I joined him as it was a good time for a break. Just as we were getting back on the bikes Carl passed. We ride alone and still manage to meet along the way.
Rob and Carl planned on stopping at the Indian dealer in Hollister. I assume they did that. I bypassed much of Hollister and headed straight home. I was in my garage before 1 PM.
A good time was had, but it would have been “gooder” if Fred, Dan, and a bunch more SMBC riders had been there to share the good times. WWWobble gets a pass for this trip. But if we do it again next year (probably) anything that goes wrong will still be his fault.
