Pictures start here
Carl Tyler, Chris Weld, Harry Bahlman and Alberto aimed for Paso Robles - Pasó Oaks, so what dies “pasó” means? I am a gonna guess stands for paseo, or boulevard, or something similar. If you learn otherwise let me know.
The four got together at flap-jacks, Tres Pinos on highway 25.
8:00 am after a massive pig-out we took south.
Short of Hwy 198 we headed West on a new road for all: Loanoak. Better pay attention or you miss the turn.
The one lane, in semi-disrepair was just right for adventure. You HAD to go slow for two reasons: the road itself and Carl who is fond of gentle cruising.
Ha! I get you think I am complaining about slow cruising. Nope! THANK YOU CARL.
You see, it did allow us to truly appreciate the windy road and scenery. It was just right.
Loanoak took us to hwy 101 at King City. A quick Northbound on 101 onto Jolon Road to eventually split the two lakes, Nacimiento and San Antonio.
It had great vistas and a fair road condition.
Must report: after a short “get-lost” Harry got his bearings and somehow found his way to “Santa Rosa Road”? Another one lane road… hmmm, I lie. It w= as a 1/2 lane road, bumpy, poorly maintained and far away from everything. In other words JUST RIGHT! Toward the end of this road, lo and behold! A restaurant in a small ranch. Coffee and a pastry completed the moment.
Head out from the ranch to highway 1, just a few miles west and a quick jaunt to Morro Bay.
Registered at a sold-out state park . Went for a short ride (as if we needed it) trying to find Avila Beach. Carl refused to go, the fellow was mayonnaise tired!
Good call Carl! We did not find the beach, having to make a u-turn at a dead-end road.
Back to camp. Onward to dinner.
Back once more to camp, we set a fire that lasted until XX time, I went to bed before the rest of the crew.
Sunday. Some highway took us by Atascadero, Creston and Shandon to dead end at highway 41.
Highway 41 is a bit of a dream highway. Well paved, twisty like few in a day ordered from heaven, except God was asleep on the job. This dumb, miserable, pusillanimous Kia decided to hog the road at 20 mph. So much for dream road. Even Carl got upset!
At highways 41 & 46 we paid a little tribute to James Dean at the famous place.
Eventually we headed West to Paso Robles and met Narco H and the rest of SMBC.
One by one they arrived and hungry as we all were we went to some-place (?). Food, not bad. Camaraderie at top level.
End of day.
Monday morning. We all ended up at Joe’s. Easy going place. After eating we all sorted separately to head black to the bay.
Harry and Alberto were first intending to travel with Wwwobble and Markus (with corresponding wives) and it was pretty much settled until…
“Hey, Alberto, waddayasay we find a way to test that highway 41, I bet there is no one there at this Monday”
Ayyy ayy, ayy!. That is Spanish for “Ayyy ayy, ayy.”
And off we went!
Yes, yes. The road at XX mph (not mentioned to protect the innocent) is a dream. Sweeping turns, no one around (well, one car that disappeared on the mirror) and we covered the distance before I knew we had started it.
We continued on two private roads AKA Highway 198 and 25. No one there. The entire ride. Not a soul. Again, I’ll protect the innocent … we traveled “very slow”.
Home sweet home.
Okay, when’s the next outing?
See ya!

I thought I was the only one at the Country Inn Sunday morning. My breakfast had just been served when Paul, Neil, and Mike came in. Guess I was earlier than I thought. Mike is finally back on his bike. Alas, work keept him from joining us on the ride.
Paul, Neil, and I rode 25, Peachtree, Indian Valley, San Marcos, and Nacimiento Lake roads into Paso Robles where we stopped at the Estrella Warbirds Museum to spend time with vintage aircraft, military memorabilia, and cars. After the museum I went to the designated motel. Paul and Neil were staying at a different motel about a block away.
There were 14 for dinner at F.McLintocks Saloon. I had the halibut. It was fine.
Monday breakfast for most was at Joe’s Place. After breakfast I took off north going through Hunter Liggett to pick up Nacimiento Fergusson Rd to the coast. The road was in fine condition.
Highway 1 was a different story. There were several places with traffic control. Once getting stuck behind 30 cars it’s hard to get by all of them to find clear road. I arrived at Nepenthe before getting too frustrated. Carl was removing his helmet as I got there. Dan was already sipping on some coffee.
After our break we headed North. Carl stayed on 1 until the 156 cut off. I followed Dan as he took 68 toward Salinas. Dan attempted to bypass city traffic in Salinas by taking a left on Bianco Rd. That was fine. However, he did not take the necessary right on S Davis (which I found out after getting home and looking at a map). As a result we wound up back on highway 1. We, too, took 156 to 101. I lost Dan leaving a gas station in Gilroy.
