5:45 am I’m up. Now get the rest of this crew to perform. Not so simple. I’m dealing with motorcycle people… ? Yes. Motorcycle people while very gregarious (there is no such thing as a “lonely” motorcycle rider) they are staunchly independent. Yep, they march at their own drum-beat.
But, I digress.
I got everybody up-and-at-them before 7:30 am. Raised the side-stand and we were going.
A little convoluted departing Las Vegas, on account of a major accident on highway 15 south bound. Lucky us we are headed north to the Grand Canyon (north rim - a point of contentions. Correct the troop is not happy. One is all up in arms. He thought we were going to go to The West rim, to see the Skywalk… that’s the other way!! That did not over very well.
You’d think that’s it, eh?… not nearly.
We agreed, we must stop in Saint George and get gas. The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is too far, and with this agreement we head on out.
Fifty miles out we see the desired exit. The leader stays on the main highway and ignores the exit… What!? Right on thru. First bike follows, second bike follows, third bike … takes the exit! Awww, nan! Can’t he pay attention? Now what? How do we recover him?
Fortunately, a 60-some year old has lived long enough to figure it out. After a text message, and fifteen minutes later we were reunited albeit some words, very special words to and from.
The town of Kanab
We are headed to the north rim of the Grand Canyon. Lester and Alberto went to town first to insure a getting a motel, and that proved a great decisión, dumpy little town has a lot of motels, and the majority believe that $160 plus 13%, well that’s reasonable. Excuse me! They are dumps! Finally we settled for a Days Inn $130 tax included. The place is decent, with great showers, is all you can say for it.
Secured the rooms and headed for the Grand Canyon to join Chris and Jeff. A little rain, lightning, hail… ah, must not forget the thunder. Wished that thunder had been all.
Lester was happily taking the curves at an spirited pace until… when your bike slips on wet pavement and you make a correction that rakes you to the other side of the road, you are grateful for a sphincter works correctly. From then on it was subdued and conservative riding.
Joining the other guys and after a bit of Canyon looking and kidding it was time to go to town, diner and call the day off.
We had list an hour and thinking it was 7:00 pm we were taking it easy, until someone said… “hey things closed here at 8:00 pm, we have 10 minutes to make it. Ten minutes of fast pace walking opens your appetite. Suffice it to say, we are very well.
Back to the motel…. good night.
First we must get to the Gran Canyon area
Had to amend the plan. We did not make it to Bryce. Dumpy Kanab, mid way would have to do.
Yep… that’s a moi with the canyon behind
Grand Canyon
They own all these land… say thank you.
Two geezers!
