Wednesday
Marc and Randy at the Bear Garden in Chico
I rode to Rob’s house in the city and met Randy and Rob for the ride north to Old Station. It was a mostly freeway ride with stops for brunch, ice tea, and gas. Our last stop was at the store in Shingletown where we found Neil and Chris cooling down after their ride to Susanville and other sites. We followed Chris to his place in Old Station.
Time for beer and snacks. And getting the sleeping arrangements set.

Some of the guys went to the local plinking spot. While they were doing that I wandered the streets near Chris’s house.

As I was finishing my walk Chris W was giving Christian some instruction for riding the old Honda while dad got ready to follow on the big Honda. Some were prepping for dinner while this was going on.

Where the Fall River meets the Pitt River
This was a stop on the way to breakfast/brunch. Chris is leading us on some of the local back roads with one requirement in mind: I want to stop at Burney Falls because I’d never been there. Neil left earlier in the morning for his ride home.

More Burney Falls
Chris, Chris, Christian, and I stopped at Burney Falls. The others headed back to the house to escape the heat.

I took another walk around the neighborhood once we got back to the house.
Friday
Rob woke up to a flat tire. While he was arranging for new tire to be mounted in Redding I was packing up. As the others left breakfast I finished packing and left for home. I later found out that Rob’s old tire held air – don’t know why it went flat – all the way to Redding.
I took 89 through Lassen and didn’t stop until Greenville for some Coffee and a chance to stand. It was a very pleasant ride with temps mostly in the 70s.
From Greenville I continued on 89 until 70. I took 70 west along the Feather River for a wonderful ride with almost no traffic. I finally picked up some traffic around Pulga where some road work was going on and I had to wait for a pilot car. By this time the temperature was about 100. It was going to get worse.
I stayed on 70 with a stop in Marysville for gas and lunch. While at a stop light on the way out of Marysville the bike thermometer read 111 °F. That was the highest I saw. I though it was a “stuck in traffic at a stop light high” that would soon go down. Go down it did – to about 107 °F where 70 joins with 99. Once on I80 things didn’t get much better. It was 109 °F around Davis. The temperature didn’t drop much below 107 °F until I aproached American Canyon. Valejo was less than 100 °F. It was 68 °F going through the city.
I got home a little before 5 PM. Good trip. I understand why Chris is going to miss his place at Old Station once the sale is final.
