Some SMBC riders wandered the delta levee roads on Saturday, before having a waterfront lunch at The Point Restaurant in Rio Vista. Along with the lunch, we were treated to about a dozen off shore power boat racers, all zooming by on the river at a very fast pace. Afterward, the 14 of us headed in different directions. Nine of us continued on the river road up to the Cal Expo Fairgrounds for the Legendary Sacramento Mile Flat Track race.
The AFT Singles main race was exciting to watch as Trevor Brunner (Hon), Shayna Texter-Bauman (KTM), and Dallas Daniels (Yam) battled it out and crossed the finish. Shayna had a earlier get off into the turn 3 fence, due to getting rear ended, but dusted off and continued racing.
In production twins, Shayna’s brother Cory (Yam) smoked the 4 chasing Harleys by over 5 seconds, to win and clinch the 2021 title.
That left the big twins to battle, with Jared Mees (Indian) by far out pacing the pack for the win. Followed by Jarod Vanderkooi, and Briar Bauman (Shayna’s Husband), both riding Indians as well.
I was fortunate to sit and have conversation with Mert Lawwill, (pictured) as well as chat with other Legends of motorcycle racing, current racers, team members, both at the track and at the hotel.
We headed back Sunday after breakfast, winding along the quiet river road as far as we could. This year, I had both my daughters riding with me, and my granddaughter on the back, a fantastic weekend…
