Thanks for the tips everyone --- gave me alot of confidence while 
finishing up the job and I'm happy to report that acceleration has 
improved and vibration is down.

I was almost resigned to the fact that the feeler gauge 'feel' was going 
to be impossible to communicate over email, but I think I got a really 
good idea of what it should be like.

Will defintely pick up the higher and lower-sized gauges and see how 
that works out next time.
