I took my R1100 in to get the friction plate replaced since it had ~41k

They called today and said that the housing and pressure plate had 'hot
spots' which indicated they were possibly warped and needed to be
replaced as well.
I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this for me. Did I
cause this by waiting too long to replace the friction plate? I asked
them to hang on to those parts. What should I expect to see?>>
You should ALWAYS replace all four clutch parts when replacing the clutch:
spring, inner diaphragm plate, friction disc and outer cover.
You already saw what you needed: the clutch was slipping.
